About

Motif Poetry is proud to present the fourth annual Hawke's Bay Poetry Slam! A friendly, inclusive space for poets to come together and share their work.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SLAM POETRY. All poems and poets can take part in this fun format. The point is not the points, the points are just a bit of fun.

Three rounds of audience-judged, original work from established and emerging Hawke's Bay performers, the winner will go on the represent Hawke's Bay at the national NZ Poetry Slam in Ōtautahi (Christchurch)!

Tickets on sale now. Age restriction 14+

FOR PUNTERS: This isn't the poetry you learnt at school. It's alive. It's fun. It's relevant. FOR POETS: We're now taking signups for the Hawke's Bay Poetry Slam 2021!

Slam is a fun game that we play with our poems, with random audience judges, time constraints, and a high energy, supportive crowd. We will crown a Hawke's Bay Slam Champion by the end of the night but the point is not the points, the point is the poetry!

You can email ben@motifpoetry.co.nz to sign up.

This is a 3 elimination round slam, so please bring 3 poems just in case. Each poem must be 3 minutes each or under. No props, no costumes, no music, reading your poem from paper or phone is fine. No punching down is allowed in the poetry. No hate speech, racism, sexism, ableism, other 'isms' or transphobia. Most importantly, have fun!

Full rules can be found here: http://www.newzealandpoetryslam.com/rules.html Make sure to join the Facebook group Motif Poetry: Hawke's Bay for upcoming opportunities and info.
